|Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope||The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring|
Each is the fourth entry chronologically, though the first in production, of an iconic film saga. Both following a hero's journey with a young protagonist from humble beginnings (Luke Skywalker/Frodo Baggins) finding himself in the possession of an item of great value that is critical in defeating the growing forces of darkness seeking to dominate the world. (The Death Star Plans/The One Ring) With the aid and insistence of a powerful but friendly wizard (Obi-Wan Kenobi/Gandalf the Grey) he goes on a journey to try and bring said item into a stronghold of the forces of good (The Rebel Base/Rivendell) whilst being pursued by agents of evil (Darth Vader and his men/The Nazgul) before finding himself sent to try and complete the whole task of destroying the evil faction's superweapon himself. (The Death Star/The Ring) Along the way he picks up a number of allies including a mysterious rogue (Han Solo/Aragorn) he meets at a bar. (Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina/The Inn of the Prancing Pony) Along the way however whilst venturing through a claustrophobic enemy stronghold (The Death Star/The Mines of Moria) the sagely mentor is lost during a battle against a powerful counterpart corrupted by the forces of darkness (Darth Vader/The Balrog Durin's Bane) before the rest of the group makes their narrow escape. After which the heroes reach a forested safe haven (Yavin/Lothlorien) before leaving and having to engage the forces of darkness once more spearheaded by a ferocious field commander (Darth Vader/Lurtz) during a final battle (The Battle of Yavin/The Battle of Amon Hen) where he murders a friend (Biggs Darklighter/Boromir) before being subdued by the rogue who takes him off-guard with an attack from the side. In the end the battle is won but the heroes find their adventures to have only just begun.
